Every voice counts to keep Australian content on
Australian screens.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
The single most powerful action you can take is to have a face-to-face meeting with your MP. Nothing else comes remotely close when it comes to influence and advocacy, which is why it is the key focus of our grassroots campaign.

FOLLOW OUR STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE:
We have updated our Parliamentary Meeting Kit with new materials to guide you through each step involved in organising to meet with your MP.
It’s easy to do – MPs meet with their constituents all the time when they are in their electorates.
And since the election we’ve got a whole cohort of newly elected MPs and Senators to contact and inform about our industry priorities.
With Labor returned to Government, any ALP MP or Senator is a high priority to contact.
WHAT TO TELL YOUR MP:
What your meeting should cover:
Tell your MP about your work, your business, your projects.
Tell them why the Australian screen industry needs action on streaming regulation
Tell them that the Australian Prime Minister has made a promise that “Australian stories stay on Australian screens” and in a Parliament focused on delivering on election promises, this important commitment must be kept.
SUGGESTED ACTION ITEMS FOR YOUR MP:
In your MP meeting, it is important to think about what you want to ask your MP to do to represent you.
Here’s a couple of great options:
Ask them to make a short speech in Parliament about your meeting and our issues. Each Parliamentary Sitting Day at 1.30pm, MPs can stand up and speak for 90 seconds about any issue of their choosing. These “90 Second Speeches” are a great way of raising the profile of this issue as many MPs will be in the House of Representatives ready for 2pm Question Time. A copy of the speech can be printed out from Hansard or viewed on video recording to share on social media. You’d be surprised at how effective even a short 90 second speech can be to draw attention to an issue.
Ask them to write to Arts Minister Tony Burke and Communications Minister Anika Wells. You can ask your MP or Senator to write to the Ministers and ask them for an update on Government plans to meet their election promises to regulate streaming platforms and to provide you with a copy of their response. Ministers take notice of correspondence from amongst their party colleagues.

The Australian screen industry is a valuable contributor to our national identity - and our economy. The Federal Government is currently undertaking a targeted stakeholder consultation around Australian screen content requirements on streaming services. It is important that any model of streaming regulation achieves the policy goals and expectations of the National Cultural Policy Revive, and delivers more genuinely Australian stories of cultural worth on our screens.
As an Australian screen industry worker with skin in this game, now is the time to share your experiences, perspectives and feedback on the consultation loudly and proudly on social media. Make sure to tag your local MP to bring their awareness to the issues our industry is facing.
Video Assets
The following videos demonstrate why it is vital that we ensure Australians can see themselves and their stories on popular platforms like Netflix and Disney+. We encourage you to share these videos on your personal and business social media channels alongside your personal experience of how the regulation will impact you and your business.
Event Postcard
We need to urgently secure a stable future for the Australian screen industry as a whole. Every person that creates and consumes Australian content will be impacted by this regulation. If you are hosting an event with industry peers, we suggest printing out a few copies of this Make It Australian postcard and making it available for attendees to use to snap a selfie and share on social media.
